ABOUT 50 Years in the Making

50 Years in the Making is a 22-track recording featuring three closely connected music forms: old time, blues, and bluegrass. 50 Years refers to how long these songs and tunes have been gathering in my repertoire. Like many music projects, it began with a list. A list of 74 songs was whittled down to the final 22 that comprise the complete recordings in two volumes.

The recordings feature over 20 master musicians such as Doyle Lawson, Phil Wiggins, Dori Freeman, Butch Robins, and Dom Flemons.

The recording process began in January 2020, just a few weeks before Covid struck, and the recordings were released April 4 & 5, 2022 at two celebratory concerts. I could not be more grateful to the artists who lent their talents and creativity to this effort. They came up with ideas that never occurred to me that really help bring out the most in the songs and tunes.
