This poem by Robert W. Service is probably the oldest thing in my repertoire included here. It is one of many poems Service wrote as he lived in the Yukon during the
Klondike gold rush of the late 1890s. I first heard it recited as a young Boy Scout at night in the winter woods, huddled around a campfire as Paul Catts, our Scoutmaster,
gave a thrilling rendition of it I will never, ever, forget. I set it to music many years ago. The wolves are courtesy of the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY, which works to protect and preserve wolves and their future through education about the important role they play in nature.
