Critically-acclaimed banjo extraordinaire Daniel Grindstaff just released his brand new single, “Finnland” featuring Andy Leftwich. The must-hear instrumental is the latest release from the chart-topping musician’s upcoming project Heroes & Friends, coming in 2024 via Bonfire Music Group. The full single is available for download and/or streaming on all digital platforms now.
“I wrote ‘Finnland’ with the goal of representing my love for how a banjo and fiddle have paired together through the history of string music to what we now consider modern day Bluegrass,” says Daniel Grindstaff. “It’s an honor to have the great Andy Leftwich join in and bring his superb fiddle work to make this song what I envisioned while writing it. The title and upbeat tempo of ‘Finnland’ is inspired by the sweet, innocent spirit of my oldest boy, Finn. The intricate patterns between banjo and fiddle reflect the beautiful mind of his that’s always thinking, always spinning and always inspiring.”
Leftwich adds, “It’s not very often you hear banjo/fiddle tunes in the key of B, but in this case, ‘Finnland’ offers a fun and exciting melody that makes for a perfect bluegrass instrumental! Backed by phenomenal players and a great arrangement, I’m honored to have the role playing fiddle on this one!”
The latest single is the follow-up to the previous No. 1 smash “Forever Young.” The reimagined version of Rod Stewart’s hit saw the East Tennessee native joined alongside Bluegrass mainstay Paul Brewster and the iconic Dolly Parton who both sang vocals. It would go on to become a staple at Bluegrass radio, topping the Bluegrass Today charts and receiving several accolades including being named WSM 650-AM radio’s Pick Of The Week in November.
With 2024 right around the corner, Grindstaff is looking to make it a monumental year. In addition to both “Finnland” and “Forever Young” being featured on the upcoming Heroes & Friends, it will also include the lead single “Three Arrows.” The full-length collection is inspired by the instrumentalists’ contemporaries and legendary friends he’s made over the years. Along the way Grindstaff has made hundreds of appearances at the legendary Grand Ole Opry, and has many more surprises in store as the new year approaches!
