Biography
A soulful songwriter and musician who hails from north Texas, Byron Dowd encompasses true Americana music with songs that resonate our heartland. You can see the heat rolling across outstretched fields, feel worn boot soles on country roads and hear the train’s rumble within his haunting lyrics and capturing vocals.
“A driving and uniquely introspective collection of songs of pain, love, mistakes, and hope..."
Dowd has just completed his self-titled debut album, which showcases an array of Americana and roots rock narratives born deep within Texas soil. His influences include Steve Earle and Ryan Bingham, as well as Son Volt to Ryan Adams. Along with band members Ben Moore and Cory Carroll, Byron has teamed up with an impressive slew of talented musicians from throughout Texas. Dowd has the capacity to capture the intricacies of life and love in poetically soul filled lines through lonesome guitar strings or a driving rock back beat, “Like a tightrope walk, blindfolded, on a barbed wire fence”.
Dowd’s depictions of life’s trials have been honed through playing stages across Europe and the U.S. From Amsterdam to Venice to Austin, Dowd found his stride and came full circle to land back home in North Texas.
"Blatantly soulful and eclectic, a mixture of roots rock, country, and Americana with a razor sharp edge."
With an exceptionally executed debut album under his belt, it’s the lyrics that grab you first and the melody that stays with you day after day:
“You’re dreaming airplanes while living freight trains
And counting dust dance on the rays of sun
Listen close just like a pay phone boy, you best count them footsteps one by one”
