Biography
Super Garlic vs. Funky Onion (Anthony Iozzo) always loved music and would write poetry starting at eight years old in Chicago, IL.
And with a father who drummed and a brother that played guitar, SG v FO was always fascinated with creating sounds. He learned the drums at a young age with his father and others, especially while attending jam sessions with his father's band.
Then, after majoring in journalism in college, he found Garageband in 2008. SG v FO has been producing music ever since, with friends, other artists and solo projects.
The music he finishes today is produced with Logic and other programs (such as Pro Tools), while guitars, drums, horns and other real instruments are also used in some recordings. He also is a self-taught pianist, where he mostly plays with midi sounds on a keyboard.
While writing has always been a part of his life, rapping and singing have not been. But a friend/artist (Victoria Vlisides) who was working on a track with him said, "Hey, you should do a verse too."
And after an hour or so, he rapped his first verse. Now, he sings, raps, does spoken word or anything else that comes to his head.
It must also be said that he didn't really get serious about digital production until working with Victoria.
SG v FO's, who now resides in Madison, WI, first album came out on July 1, 2011 (Energize your Appetite). It featured funk, hip-hop, house and downbeat electronica beats.
The newest album (Adventurous) was released on Dec. 15, 2011 and features hip-hop, electronica, dubstep, funk and ambient beats.
A third album (Supernatural) is set to be released later in 2012.
Featured artists:
Mal-one (Marc Lopez)
An independent artist, he was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and always listened to hip-hop, but he was heavily influenced when introduced to the underground music hip-hop scene when he checked out his first show in 2000.
After that his friends and himself started experimenting with the art of freestyle, everyday sessions occurred and many tapes were recorded.
Mal-one has done collaborations with HalluciNate, Metronome, Super Garlic vs Funky Onion, Syzoar, and other various artists. Mal-one has also done a poetry slam at a local Chicago bar the Green Mill and even entered in a battle contest.
Mal-one still actively writes lyrics and poetry but has yet to put out a full length solo album.
There is no genre for Mal-one's versatile delivery style with beat hugging lyrics and cadence that rides the sound out and can switch the tempo from sharply quick spitting to slow groovin rap.
Vicious (Victoria Vlisides)
She always has had a way with words, but didn't try rapping until her friends and musicians Leet Moteef (Kyle Austin) and Bertier (Michael Bartoli) handed her a pencil and paper and told her to start writing because she was going to do the third verse on the song they were recording.
Later that night, she had her first recorded verse and a taste of what she could actually do. Summer of 2010, she started recording tracks with producer SGvs.FO. She raps and sings, but mostly just does whatever feels right on the track. She's from the Madison, WI area and likes to rage at dubstep and hip-hop shows.
