Biography
He is a deep and cleansing breath of fresh air. This unimposing young man will tell you straight up……“what you see is what you get”. He is truly about the clean cut image he portrays…loves all sports, crazy for football, and bowls with a 203 average. He is addicted to working out…..especially cardio workouts, but his passion is, and always has been, music.
Skyler was born in Bayou LaBatre, Alabama, one of seven children raised in a single parent home. At fifteen he left his familiar surroundings and roamed the countryside with his older brother who owned a karaoke business. He entered the contests and began to win…night after night. He’d found his passion. The audiences assured him he was “right on”. Skyler’s path had been laid and the singer was born.
Life led him to Prattville Alabama and while working his day job, he was approached by a man who’d seen him perform. “Why don’t you get me a CD… I’ve got family in the music business in Nashville and I’ll see they get it”. Skyler was skeptical. How many “I’m gonna make you a star” persons had he encountered? Thankfully, this man was relentless and the CD was mailed. Soon after, Skyler drove to Nashville to meet his destiny. That “family in the music business” is Blue Miller, well known artist, writer, and producer and his wife Beth, who is also an award winning writer and producer.
In Skyler’s young career, he has been the opening act for Billy Currington, Randy Travis, Rodney Crowell, John Anderson, Lane Brody, Emily West and Robin Meade of CNN News. He has performed with Danny Shirley of Confederate Railroad, Doug Kahan of the Paul Thorn Band, Roger Allen Wade, Cody McCarver and Blue Miller to name a few, and all the while playing smaller venues across the south and southeast to hone his craft. He will soon be touring the country music festivals across the United Kingdom.
Who does he sound like? No one. His influences from Michael Jackson to Garth Brooks have created his unique style. His voice has been called a “whiskey soaked tenor”, and his market is country…contemporary, young, modern country. That doesn’t mean he can’t tackle some good old traditional tunes. George Strait and Merle Haggard would be proud of his Skyler-ized versions of Troubador and Mama Tried. His band is Ohio, Alabama, Kansas, and Detroit natives. Sometimes you’ll see them unplugged, and sometimes you’ll see them rockin’ out, but one thing you’ll always see is a great show.
Whether Skyler is in front of 50 people or 10,000 people, he always gives it his all. He says if people are willing to come out and watch him perform, then he owes it to them to give the best performance he can. He lives by his code…honesty, hard work, and respect for yourself and your fellow being.
