Biography
I have been playing piano since the age of 9, growing up in a household where music was strongly valued .
I grew up listening to progressive rock in the 70’s, intrigued by the rock keyboard players of that time – Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and Tony Banks in particular. After graduating college, I began to listen to jazz music. I took theory and improvisation in the mid 1980’s and began playing jazz standards. I have continued ever since, playing the classics of Coltrane, Ellington, Chick Corea and many more. My listening habits include a combination of piano jazz and fusion music. I am inspired by pianists Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett and McCoy Tyner. In addition, the idea of incorporating jazz influences into a more “mainstream” sound (with electronic instruments) has always appealed to me. This is reflected in fusion artists I listen to, which include the Pat Metheny Group, Chick Corea Electric Band, Jean-Luc Ponty, and the music of Donald Fagen/Steely Dan
This CD, entitled “Incidental Dreams” is my first solo project. Many of the tunes on this CD have been on the Independent music website ‘Soundclick”, and most of them have earned a spot in the Top 100 jazz chart for that website. The CD is an eclectic mix of funk, Latin and swing rythms, which reflect my own personal taste in music.
This CD was reviewed by Alex Henderson, a music and entertainment critic whose work has appeared in Spin, Jazz Times, Jazziz, CD Review and many others. Among the many positive comments he had on this project were the following: “Incidental Dreams is commercialism, but it is commercialism with integrity and a brain”. “He (Scott Bradley) isn’t afraid to let loose and solo on piano or keyboards, and his playing shows a fondness for Joe Sample, Bob James, Lonnie Liston Smith, Jeff Lorber and George Duke”. “It’s nice to see a musician who realizes that funky, commercial, pop-flavored jazz doesn’t have to sound like music for the dentists’s office”. The full review can be found at www.reviewyou.com.
The project represents the fulfillment of my vision of an ensemble sound, created and performed by a solo artist. The tunes on this record represent the varied influences I have enjoyed through my life. I hope that I can connect with an audience who appreciate the influences present in this music and can enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
