Biography

RUSSELL HARRIS is a professional musician, songwriter, teacher and performer.

Based in Cairns, North Queensland in the Land Down-under, Russell's career spans some 20 years.

Although a classically trained trumpet and flugelhorn player, his true passion is as Lead Vocalist or Guitarist/vocalist performing solo or with his band ‘Tectonic’.

In addition to writing and recording his own compositions, Russell has played on many high-profile Australian artist's recordings including renowned indigenous performer "David Hudson", Songwriter "Andy 'Sugarcane' Collins", 2007 Aria award-winner "Seaman Dan" and "Tribe of Jubal".

The diversity of styles and instruments Russell enjoys performing are apparent in his latest 10 tracks CD ... “SURVIVOR”.

Renowned Producer Nigel Pegrum has this to say about Russell and the album…

"Record production is always a challenge. In Russell's case add the fact that he plays three instruments - voice, guitar and trumpet - that don't always naturally work in the same musical genre.

The usual comfortable marriage of guitar and voice are a perfect combination and form the basis for all the tracks on this CD. Utilising Russell's exacting musicianship and involving his fine trumpet playing and brass arranging, the result was this fine
contemporary acoustic style 10 track CD containing some very fresh and interesting blends of sound.

Most tracks on the album have a unique sound and feature: "40 Miles" is a good place to begin - a solid Roots rhythm section and vocal performance with additional brass. "Tropical Blues" is a locals tongue in cheek story about the perils of living in North Queensland during the monsoon season. The ballads are a treat - offering tasteful instrumentation including Flugelhorn, Soprano Sax Acoustic & Slide Guitar with varying levels of production.”
