Biography
I was raised the daughter of a Pentecostal Preacher. Music, specifically gospel music, has always been an important part of my life. I began singing in church services when I was about 3 years of age. Sunday afternoons were frequently spent listening to the albums of The Statesmen, The Speer Family, Blackwood Brothers etc. to find a new song to sing. Since I could not read at that early age I would have to memorize the words and practice till I knew them by heart. Dad would never let us sing a song in services until we could demonstrate that we knew the material and were ready...
My early music ministry was mostly in my local church. I also ministered to the elderly at various nursing homes and performed at Youth Camps, retreats, camp meetings, and special occasions. At various times I had opportunities to sing on the same program with the original Hinsons, the Goodmans, the Florida Boys and the Songmasters. I sang at my first funeral service when I was barely a teenager and have lost count over the years of the number of times I was asked to sing at funerals of the young as well as the old. For a number of years I spent a significant part of my summer months singing at weddings. I still get numerous requests to perform at weddings and funerals.
Around the age of 17 I wrote the first of what was to become a great many songs. For years the songs languished in a drawer while I went about the business of being a wife and mother. In early 2002, with the strong encouragement of my brother Ken and my good friend (and now business partner) Mel Waltrip, I began singing "my songs". A dream to record since a teenager was finally realized when my first project "Look What the Lord Has Done" was released June 24, 2002. It contains eleven of the numerous songs I have written.
In March of 2003 my first project was released to radio stations nationally and the response has been positive and gratifying. Now that my daughters are grown and my presence in the home is not required on a constant basis I have begun performing and singing my songs at venues across western Tennessee. I have shared the stage with the likes of The Dixie Echoes, Charles Johnson and the Revivers, Aaron Wilbur and Ronnie Hinson. I hope to expand my performing schedule and am now accepting bookings for concerts, church activities, and special events. I also plan to continue ministering to the elderly whenever and wherever I have the opportunity.
My discography includes: “Meet Me In Heaven”, “If Heaven Had a Telephone” and just recently my fourth project simply titled “Theresa”. All of the projects contain original material with a variety of styles included on each.
I have been really encouraged by the many positive comments I have received but I never forget for a moment that my purpose is not to gain glory to myself, but to give Glory to the mighty God we serve. All things, including my ability to write and sing songs of praise, come from His bountiful hand and He has blessed me richly. May I never take the credit for what He has done.
