Biography

THEREMYN_4 has been playing and producing in the emerging Peruvian music scene for over 12 years, with 7 productions on their shoulders and many live presentations not only in Peru, but in Europe, Canada and other Latin American countries.

Currently the band is composed by Lu Falen on vocals, Jose Mendocilla on the guitars and Jose Gallo on the synths, samplers, and djing. In their country, the group is considered the leader of live electronic music. The national and international critics have been positive throughout its career. Their live presentations are polished and energetic, and they’ve shared concerts and festivals with electronic music stars like Peter Hook (New Order/Joy Division bassist), Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode’s ex-member and now Recoil), Aviador Dro, Richie Hawtin, Ettiene De Crecy between others. They have played in local versions of global electronic music festivals like Creamfields and in Manchester’s THE HACIENDA club world tour.

The group’s sound has evolved from an experimental stage by breakbeat and drum & bass (“Fluorescente verde en el patio”, 2000), changing into downtempo (“Mi vida en infrarrojo”. 2001), cinematic music (“Lima/Tokyo/Lima”, 2004), acid house (“Spacetimebomb”, 2006) and into electro and techno in the last years. (Inflamable, 2009). Two of their videos have been shown in MTV: “Carmín Ciclón” and “Escape en un simulador de vuelo”.

Some influences that the group has mentioned are classic groups like New Order or Underworld, and also contemporary bands like M83, Delphic or Cut Copy.

In November of 2011, the release of "FICTION BEATS", their latest album, has been a turning point for the band. With a more elaborated sound and slightly more digestible from the other productions, this one was instantly ranked on local lists as "Best of the year”. Important media such as blogs, newspapers and magazines, emphasized and praised the impetus "dance" from the album. In fact, well-known critic, Raul Cachay from "El Comercio" newspaper, the most important in the country, wrote: " A very fresh, vigorous and danceable from the start to the end: A triumph of persistence and personal dedication".

In March 2012, the shock wave generated by FICTION BEATS, gets into New York, USA, with the dance-pop track, "FIAT LUX". Such great production, received their first award from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (www.jlsc.com) for the electronic music category of the year, to later receive a bigger prize of the contest in June 2012, The Lennon Award. They were invited in July to Pop Montreal Festival in Canada and were selected between the most important bands in their country to play live at the Peruvian music festival, called “Lima Vive Rock”, which is the most important in recent years.

On December 2012 the band is nominated at the "Group of the year" category in one of the most important awards from the cultural life in Perú, the "Premios Luces".

On March 2013 the band became finalist in two important international contests: At the International Songwriting Competition with the Song "Urban Daemon" and the 12th Independent Music Award with the album FICTION BEATS both in the Dance/Electronica Category. Also they recently performed at the CANADIAN MUSIC FEST 2013 in Toronto, the biggest Canadian festival which include artists like Rihanna, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Metric. In May they received the 3rd place in the Dance/Electronica category at the International Songwriting Competition.

As an independent/unsigned group, THEREMYN_4 is now interested in looking to work with an international record company. They are currently promoting "FICTION BEATS" in their country and region and looking forward to play at music festivals all over the globe.
