The Bear Pickins Band started in 2017 with 5 members. Although all had music in one form or the other throughout their lives, none of them had really had any group experience. Forming the band to play more for jams and churches, they started getting noticed and booked at more events. Having two of the original band members leave In 2020 when Covid hit and not wanting to give up on their love for music, the three members left - Dave and Marilyn Rakes, and Gary Lingruen, decided to continue on and brought on Diane Hatch. The band used the down time during Covid to practice and help each other learn and build themselves back.

They were proud to have their first CD - BACK TO MY MOUNTAIN HOME - out in June of 2021 and are now releasing their first single from that CD - BACK TO MY MOUNTAIN HOME ILOVE, written by Marilyn.

They also recently recorded their first Gospel CD - WE PICK GOD - which was released in May 2023.

They have been labeled by fans as a smooth, well dressed entertaining group that works hard and has fun. Their love for performing shows every time they walk out on stage.
