Biography

Jay Matthes is a solo male artist out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is already making waves at age 27 with his debut album, 'Apt 201 (& Other Short Stories)'. Matthes wrote, performed, recorded and produced the album in a childhood bedroom at his parent's house, recalling the days when he would fill cassette tapes with his acoustic music and distribute them to friends and family. In keeping with this tradition, Matthes delivers a simplistic set of songs that will please new and old fans alike.

Matthes began playing music in high school, with his first live show being at a local Battle of the Bands. His band took Second Place, setting the tone for future awards at later battles. Matthes' stage presence helped establish a local following, which expanded into Western Wisconsin with UW-La Crosse favorite Eight Day Kick. He would later perform with If Not Yours and McMannerism, and is currently working with a new project, A Common Engine.

"My favorite thing about music is creating a connection with the listener, with somebody that maybe I've never met before. Someone can wander into a bar or hear me on a CD and connect on such a personal level without ever seeing my face or shaking my hand. As a musician, it's my job to create that connection, where he or she or they can listen to the music and feel like they now know me better than they did before they heard that song."
