Biography
My name is Akeunde Pemberton and I was born on December 13th, 1983. I attended St. Paul’s Anglican School from which I graduated to St. Benedicts College La Romaine, where I did my O Levels and A Levels Examinations. Having sufficient qualifications I pursued my next endeavor which was to pursue a career in the field of Information Systems. I’m currently undertaking a Degree Course in this field in U.W.I School of Continuing Studies.
However, grateful as I am, being academically inclined wasn’t enough for me. I had a deep longing to fulfill a more spiritual role, to undertake a greater purpose, the one that I was assigned to. I just didn’t know what it would be and when it would be revealed to me. Trying not to lean to my own understanding, all I did was pray and ask God to go before me and bring forth what should be. In the middle of 2005 I met a producer who was looking for artists to voice on his reggae versions. Knowing some artists I made the necessary connections. Things was going well and I was asked to join his crew, where I dealt which much of the business such was managing the various projects with the artists, auditions, promotions, financial acquirements and so on.
As time went by, however, I realized that like things, people had changed also. My artists and I were going through a great ordeal. The burden was great. I thought that by staying things would get better but I was wrong. Touched and inspired by the voice of the God and the people, family, friends and fellow artists in September 2006 I decided that it was time for me to leave. However having a great love for purpose, the music and my artists I decided to start my own crew. Not procrastinating I went fast at work. I began to study the industry, gathering as much knowledge as I needed to start and run my own company. I recruited my good brethren Sherlon Jackson to help me manage the business. I then inquired of my artists whether they would support my cause and they gave me immediate support.

Though it took me awhile to recruit a good producer finally I got one in some months that followed. In 2008 we released the Freedom Riddim as a collaborative project with producer GMaster. It became a hit in Trinidad and soon spread abroad where two of our tracks by artists Royal Dainties and Gounzman, were even included on Project Groundation’s ‘Down in the Ghetto, The Mixtape Album‘, which was released in digital and retail stores worldwide.
In February of 2010, however , inspired of God, having tremendous support from my family and friends, especially my mother, we officially opened our new studio, JahLight Records, meaning ‘Light Of God’. Here we specialize in music production, promotion and artist management. Here we added a fellow bredren and engineer to the business by the name of Kendall Arnold. Together we released our New Day Riddim in the same year, which yielded a local hit track in Gounzman’s ‘What Monkey See’. This was then followed in 2011 by the very beautiful Mount Zion I Riddim which was a collaborative project between JahLight Records and Switzerland based Flow Productions. This featured artists like Zebulun, Roxy Singh, MultiSymptom, gospel reggae chanter, Koen Duncan, to name a few.
At JahLight Records we work with different genres including gospel, hip hop, dancehall, r n b and especially reggae, etc. The crew is musically inspired by the likes of Sizzla, Bob Marley, Luciano, Jah Cure, Tupac, Nas, and the list goes on. Whatever the music genre, however, we aim at positivity. In our main field of reggae music we work and interface with a lot of artists including, Jamelody, Queen Omega, Zebulun, Dainjamental etc and plan to work with a lot of the top and upcoming acts in an outside of Trinidad. Since the start of our mission we have taken up to personally manage a very unique and talented reggae artist, King Solomon. Together we are a powerful force to reckon with.
We at JahLight Records network worldwide with Djs, Producers, Radio Stations, Artists, Editors, etc. Due to our extensive network with foreign labels, artists can not only get the opportunity to voice for JahLight Records but also for producers in Europe, Jamaica, Japan, USA, etc. We have worked with labels such as Country Boys Foundation (UK), House of Riddims (Austria), Nellz Production (Jamaica), Dainjamentalz USA and the lists goes on. We also offer promotional services to artist in need of.
The Jahlight team plans to use music as a communication medium to influence, educate and strengthen the people. It’s all about promoting positivity, unity, love, godliness and all other requisites that go towards our great cause, fulfilling the will of God in these dreadful times. Jahlight shines on those that deserve the opportunity and gives them that chance to shine. As ambassadors of righteousness, we are here to make a change; a positive contribution to our country of Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the world. God is the light of the world and the light is the truth: it’s what separates us from the darkness. Using music as a medium we endeavor to spread the Word of God to the four corners of the world. Christ commands, if you love me feed my sheep. With the Almighty first and foremost, hard work and perseverance we will attain these goals. For when Jah light shines it touches the soul, ignites and starts an ever burning fire.

"Radio Creds" are votes awarded to artists by radio programmers who have downloaded their music and have been impressed with the artist's professionalism and the audience's response to the new music. Creds help artists advance through the AirPlay Direct community.

Only radio accounts may add a Radio Cred. One week after the track has been downloaded the radio account member will receive an email requesting a Cred for each artist they've downloaded.
