Biography
Leaving behind their east coast roots and heading west, members of Fishes Plural quickly settled in and found a home in the cloudy gray winters and pine tree forests of the pacific northwest. The mountains and rivers provide the silent hum backing every quiet expression of confusion and sadness as lyricists Steve and Jane Fish confront the world they came from with doubt and longing. Both would be more comfortable in a muddy stream [Track 1] or a country bike ride [Track 3, 4] than most any other occupation, and they make no secret about it.
Fishes Plural will write you a song that sounds real nice and makes you feel real good, but you can't listen to a note without sharing the subtle desperation that comes with finding your way in the world. They'll write you a song that will get stuck in your head all day, but leave you thinking over the tough questions and difficult choices that we face in the brief time we've been given to experience life [Track 11].
Don't be mistaken – Fishes Plural know how to have fun [Track 6], and Steve Fish hosts the best parties you've ever been to. They'll show you how the pro's go bike camping. They have funny stories about people doing strange things. They are the heroes of late-night light-up Frisbee in the park. But, don't be surprised when their genuine honesty let's them share something deeply personal [Track 7, 8, 11] and you are forced to join in their familiar chorus of the inevitability of modern adulthood and a longing for Another Way.
Birds, Trees, Mountains sounds as natural as the title suggests. Edited down by songwriter Steve Fish from recordings gathered over years of open-invitation jam nights and musical get-togethers. The listener will be gently transported to the smokey room where the music was first birthed. No click-tracks here.
