Biography
Taking to the Canadian Rockies with little more than a backpack, a notebook and his wife Carroll penned the songs that would become "canyon" hiking the backcountry of Canada's wilderness. The vast country can make a man feel small and insignificant. This EP epitomizes this in them and focuses on those feelings, how in a world so large a single human being can be like a grain of sand, but still somehow we find reasons to keep climbing and persist.
Recorded at Dirt Floor studio in the woods of CT with some of his closest friends and favorite musicians, this new work has a keen focus on lyrics, harmonies, and a feeling and vibe. This is a collaborative effort in which anything could, and did happen in studio, mostly live.
Modern Roots, is perhaps a contradiction in its very name, but a musical ideal that Carroll stands firm to uphold. Drawing inspiration in style and delivery from songwriters and musicians of that past, while writing from what inspires him in his everyday life, he bridges the gap between American Roots and current day Americana music.
