13 HANDS, aka Dalien, an independent, 2006 Grammy nominated musician/singer-songwriter, world musician and Yoga Professor at Montclair State University.
13 HANDS’ contemporary sound is a cross between David Grey, Damien Rice, Pink Floyd and various World music styles. Additionally he plays over 20 instruments from various cultures, including Native American flutes, African and Indian percussion, Balophone and Hang drum that are incorporated into both contemporary, world and meditative music…. and of course CHANTING AND SOUL SINGING rooted in the tradition of Hindu Chant, Native American and Shamanism.
His career spans 5 records, touring, and anti-hunger work. He has shared stage with Laurie Anderson, Tuvan Throat Singers from Tuvo (outer Mongolia), RUN DMC, Marjorie Fair, Paula Cole, Dave Stringer (Kirtan artist) and was picked the recent winner of the “On The Verge” contest hosted by folk music icon, Christine Lavin.
THE DEEPER MEANING OF 13 HANDS? 13 HANDS is linked back to the Malaysian Martial Arts forms. It’s not a fighting style, per se, but rather 13 energy positions in which to hold the hand that will generate and focus chi when implemented into the practice.
