Biography
Azmyth is an American hard rock band from Orange Springs, Florida consisting of brothers Tim, Tyler Downey, and Alex Noles. The band is most known for their win in the Pat Traver's Battle Of The Bands, which led to working with Keith Henderson of Rust Productions (who worked under the greats, Bruce Swedien, and Quincy Jones). The contest was judge by several notable musicians, including Mark Smith, who wrote the score for "The Last of The Mohicans "The name Azmyth is a derivative of the word azimuth. The first two letters A and Z stand for the word azimuth, and the last half "myth" stands for something unknown, making the meaning of the band name an unknown direction. This explains the constant changing style of the band's music. The band began roughly towards the end of 2003. Although the band did originate in Atlanta, they have always said that it originated way back in Orange Springs. Tim Downey always wanted to play music for a living, but it wasn't until his appearance on "The Regular Guys" show at the age of fifteen that he knew for sure. It wasn't until two years later that the band was initially formed. At the age of thirteen Tyler Downey started playing the drums. This was soon after Tim's appearance on the show. The chemistry was right, and the band started off. Since then they have headlined many big festivals in Florida, headlined at Six Flags 2008 Live And Local concerts, and their most recent accomplishment was playing the Daytona International Speedway before the 2010 Daytona 200 Motorcycle Race. Tim Downey has said onstage, and in interviews that the memory of his grandfather, whom he never met, inspired him to start playing music. He has stated on many occasions that "The one person who has inspired me to do this the most, is the one person i have never met." He told the story onstage before the song "A-Train" on July 24, 2009, and teared up during it. Heavy influences of the band are acts such as Sammy Hagar, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Soundgarden, Guns N' Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, Honky Toast, and Tom Petty. Alex Noles brings the influence of many 80's metal bands. The band is most notable known for hard rock riffs, a massive drum sound, and grungy vocals. The majority of the songs written have been written by Tim, and Tyler Downey, but the two have ventured out to write with other musicians in the past. On June 30, 2010, the band released their debut album "K.A.R.M.A. Comes Full Circle" Immediately following the release of the album, the brothers started talking to guitarist Alex Noles. After a few meetings with the band Noles was hired on to be the third full time member of Azmyth, and the first in almost a year. Soon after Noles joined the band they began on what would be their seventh compilation, and their second public release. The album was started as a normal project, but soon took a turn towards a concept. Tim Downey soon decided to go with the concept of "outlaws", or "Billy The Kid". With the recording of Mrs. Maxwell, this concept was well on its way. The album nears completion, and holds about sixteen songs as of yet. The band has stated that it will be atleast eighteen to twenty songs. The CD was titled "Avenging John Tunstall". Tunstall's death sparked what was known as "The Lincoln County War", and the birth of the legend known as "Billy The Kid". This material has allowed the band to write from The Kid's perspective as a misunderstood avenger of John Tunstall. The album is slated for release in early 2011. Azmyth has been featured in many publications including newspapers, and magazines. Their most notable was when they appeared on the front page of two newspapers in one week and shared the front page with A Day To Remember on one, and on the other with Bob Dylan. Azmyth was also noted in Orlando's All Access Music Magazine as a "fun loving trio, with lyrics that either make you laugh or think" Azmyth is a huge supporter of the aid to the homeless. Tim Downey has publicly stated that he would "like to live on the streets for a month just to see what homeless people go through." The band's message started out as changing music, but took a turn during their 2009 tour when the band saw another band mistreated at a club. The band decided to stand up for the rights of artist's, musician's, and band's treatment when performing somewhere, no matter how unknown the band is. The band has stated that they want to "bring back the soul that we feel music has been lacking for over 30 years".
