Biography
Bethlehem Musikfest, Pennsylvania Synfonia Orchestra
..."The highlight of the afternoon was the performance given by coloratura soprano, Alicia Grugett, whose rendering of the concert aria "Mia Speranza Adorata" (K.416) was absolutely wonderful. Her clear, light, flexible soprano and telling familiarity with every nuance of the piece resulted in a performance given with passion, dramatic interest and intense feeling. Grugett is gifted with the ability to sell a song, so to speak, and will surely gain a wider audience if she continues to offer such stirring musicianship."
- Judith Wyatt, The Morning Call, Pennsylvania

The Impresario, Capital City Opera, Atlanta, GA
..."Alicia Grugett, as the veteran Madame Heartmelt, displayed her own virtues, comically switching from a daffy Brooklyn speaking accent to robust Italianate singing —- a charmer!"
-Pierre Ruhe, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Georgia

Alicia Grugett, coloratura soprano, was born in Havana, Cuba. Her family came to the United States when she was very young, to escape a communist regime, and she is happy to be an American citizen.

She began voice lessons at the age of 15, and at 16 years of age, she sang the part of "Amahl" in Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Creative Opera of Miami, which was also televised throughout the Southeastern United States. The Miami Herald critic, James Roos, wrote of her performance: "Alicia was that rare thing in the Menotti world. An Amahl who could sing and act."

She continued to sing in various musicals during her high school years and graduated Magna cum laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and received her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance with a 4.0 GPA from the University of Michigan, both on scholarship.

Ms. Grugett has sung with the Miami Opera, the Pittsburgh Opera apprentice program, the New Jersey State Opera, the Capital City Opera (Atlanta), the Allentown Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony and has won numerous vocal competitions.

Alicia left music completely, to be a dedicated wife and stay-at-home mother. She believed that she could not give her children a stable and loving home environment while meeting the demands of a music career. Her father's recent death had a tremendous impact on her, though, and she has decided to return to her first love, "singing", as a way to honor him (he was her greatest fan) and her sweet mother.

Her debut CD "Alicia Grugett with love" is in the new classical crossover genre, and contains love songs in Italian, English, Spanish and French.
She has also just released a Mini CD entitled "Alicia Grugett-The Prayer" which contains two tracks of popular classical crossover songs, made famous by Andrea Bocelli: The Prayer, and Time to Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro').
Alicia enjoys singing opera, and feels equally at home with musical theater, and the new classical pop style, similar to Andrea Bocelli, Il Divo and Sarah Brightman.

Her singing is full of emotion, and she conveys to her audiences the essence of the lyrics through her innate musicality and interpretive flair.

For Alicia, there is no greater privilege or honor, than to share her tremendous JOY, PASSION and LOVE of music with everyone.
