Biography

Wendy Starland was "discovered" by James Browns sax player, Maceo Parker, who spotted her in a crowd at a concert in Ithaca, New York and pulled her up on stage. The trombone player, hearing her singing along, put the microphone in front of her and let her wail. She scatted her own improvised song for twenty minutes and got a standing ovation. Her rave review in The Ithaca Times called her "the mystery diva in Maceo Parkers second set." As a result her band "The Honey", which was sponsored for a time by fashion designer Donna Karan, was booked in every venue in Ithaca for the next few years while she continued her studies at Cornell during the day. She was the opening act for Shawn Colvin at Summer Stage in Prospect Park and for Grandmaster Flash on New Years Eve at Roseland. The Disney Channel presented her as a featured performer at Miracle on Madison Avenue that exposed her to an audience of 80,000 people. Wendy has recently co-written a song with 9th Prince of KillArmy (of Wu Tang Clan) and is featured on the chorus while he raps on the verses. This song will be the first single on 9th Princes debut solo album due for release in the fall on BMG. The video, which will feature Wendy, is in pre-production. FILM Credits/Wendy recently completed work as Music Supervisor and Composer on scores and soundtracks for several movies since January 2002. The Rules is a comedy starring The Jerky Boys, Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling (The Howard Stern Show), Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos) Frank Gorshen ("The Riddler" in "Batman Forever") and Z100 DJ Christine Nagy. Over 15 of Wendys original songs were used in the film that won the award for "Best Comedy" at The Atlantic City Film Festival. She is currently writing the theme to award winning director Stan Scoffields Tell Me Everything and the score to Pride and Loyalty starring Corbin Bernsen. Wendy is currently completing the soundtrack and original score for director Andreas Von Scheeles film Annas Thread, due for release in the fall.
