Biography

Sometimes, when life takes an unexpected turn, you're lucky enough to find what is important to you. Steve Greenbaum did just that when his life took a sudden change of direction. Inspired and with newfound time on his hands, Steve began focusing more of his time on writing music. The result is Taking a Turn, his first CD. What started out as a solo acoustic guitar project inspired by a Pat Metheny side project (Beyond the Missouri Sky), evolved into one of the most interesting releases of the year. After hearing music by the likes of Adrian Legg and Michael Hedges, Steve was amazed that music from a single guitar could be so captivating. From this, Steve became motivated to focus his own playing on the acoustic guitar and the use of alternate guitar tunings.

Liquid Blue - "A smoky bar, a strong drink and the sound of a soulful trumpet."

Taking a Turn - "Finally, you realize what you need -- a change in direction! Uncertain at first, then realizing that there are brighter days ahead. "

Missouri Stars - Beyond the Missouri Sky by Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden is one of my favorite albums and one of several that inspired the creation of this CD. The title of this song is a salute to that incredible CD.

Tryst - "A meeting of lovers."

Greenbaum's musical influences are evident throughout the disc, which range from Metheny/Frisell/Botti on the mid-tempo tracks to Legg/Hedges on the slower solo guitar tracks.
