Biography
Sam Sparro is a dynamic performer and ingenious songwriter/producer whose talent has been well nurtured by his musical family. His parents are musicians, and his grandfather, a jazz trumpeter, played with heavyweights like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., while his grandmother is a dancer/actress. Sam Sparro continues the legacy through the release of his debut EP, Black & Gold, on Los Angeles based electronic label Modus Vivendi Music.

After moving from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, CA at the age of 10, Sam sang in church with some of the greatest session singers LA had to offer. Singers that had performed with Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan (among others) were soon booking Sam to sing on demos, television shows and records. Uninspired by mainstream education, he passed the high school equivalency exam at 16 and moved back to Sydney to live with his grandparents. For six months he worked in a music PR firm, where he quickly rose to prominence within the company, being groomed by the president as the heir apparent. Ever the renegade, Sam forsake his newfound glory in pursuit of more audacious dreams of stardom and relocated to the UK, the home of many of his musical idols.

In London, Sam began working for record labels and immersed himself in all the musical flavors the pulsating metropolis had to offer. Parties, nightclubs and festivals provided a priceless education in everything from house to electro, dancehall to funk and rock to reggae. Motivated and inspired, Sam went back to Los Angeles where he began to concentrate solely on his burgeoning music career, spending days locked in his room writing songs and forging a new sound. With a wealth of newly written material Sam ventured back to Sydney to form a band, Sugar James, which rapidly gained prominence born from the cult surrounding its charismatic frontman. With ALL eyes fixed on Sams every move, the other band members found the peripheral glow of his spotlight intensifying tension and inner turmoil. The group soon disbanded, playing their last gig at The Vanguard to a legion of Australian fans craving more.

Back in LA, Sam established a residency at the legendary What Club? and was immediately transfixed by the freedom and energy of the underground speakeasy. He began to perform his signature mix of synthesized 70s and 80s pop, rock and soul, in the spirit of Chaka Khan and Prince, fused with house, electro and beyond. It was at the What Club? where Sam was discovered by Jesse Rogg, general manager of Modus Vivendi Music, who signed him to the label and became the DJ producing arm.

With Black and Gold completed and primed to hit the airwaves and dance clubs, Sam Sparro is poised to introduce the world to his innovative music and style. Described as existential pop by fans, Sam Sparro recently wowed audiences at the 2007 Winter Music Conference in Miami with his engaging stage show a brilliant mix of old-school vocals and futuristic beats. To an international music scene mired in much of the same ole, same ole, Sams transcendent sound will have audiences soaring toward an astral state of aural euphoria.
