Biography
The Quartet "Quarto" formed in Sofia (EU; Bulgaria) in 2005, as not only a piano quartet, but also as a flexible chamber ensemble with varying configurations, such as duos, trios, as a string quartet and as a quintet with piano, double bass or clarinet. They present frequent concerts in Sofia and many other cities in Bulgaria as well as in Germany, Italy and Austria. Bulgarian and foreign musicians alike testify to the high level of these young musicians, as exemplified by their performances at and prizes from competitions such as the "250 Mozart Anniversary" 2006,"Brahms" 2006, Competition "Austrian music" 2008, "Goleminov" Competition 2008 and others. Frequent guests artists appearing with Quarto Quartet are Bulgarian pianists prof. Dimo Dimov and Bogdan Stanev, cellists John Koen (Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra) and Dimitar Tenchev (Sofia Soloists), violists Avri Levitan (Israel) and Boris Tonkov (Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana). The quartet and its guests have premièred numerous contemporary works by Bulgarian and foreign composers such as Georgi Arnaudov and Tsenko Minkin, Lubo Denev and Vasil Kazandjiev, Tom Knific and Jeffrey Ryan, Dimitar Ninov and others. Quarto Quartet made many recordings for Bulgarian National Radio and Television. Now they are recording piano quartets and quintets from Beethoven, Mahler, Schumann, Turina and Zarebski for the new record label for classical and jazz music "Arcadium". Their current repertoire includes trios, quartets, quintets and sextets for strings and piano (with double bass or clarinet) by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Smetana, Schumann, Brahms, Mahler, Frank Bridge, Juliusz Zarebski, Bartok, Igor Stravinsky, Joaquin Turina, Lubomir Pipkov and others.
