“Jackson Emmer and I wrote this song on Zoom after performing together at the Whitefish Songwriter Festival in Whitefish, MT,” says Grace Morrison. “We’d played a round together and I think we both walked away enamored with the other’s work, this was our first cowrite (although we’ve been writing together quite a bit since). Jackson is such a fabulous, succinct lyricist, and my superpower is melody-I love hearing our strengths combine in the songs we write (and I just worked really hard not to turn this into a musical Marvel superhero rant).

“Jackson came to this writing session with the title 'Put the Ring on Every Day.' We’d each been married to our respective partners for 5 years at this point, so we started by bouncing off little anecdotes about marriage. I told him about my wedding, which was styled after Dwight Schrute’s family traditions (he’s a main character in The Office. My husband and I have watched this series sequentially at least 5 times). We got married on our cranberry bogs while our guests sat on hay bales. Neither of those things are IN the song, but it was that visual that was top of our minds when we wrote the first verse 'stood in front of everyone, so innocent when we begun.'

“Another writer commented recently that artists tend not to write happy songs about how great marriage is, so I’m excited that Jackson and I had already written this! No, partnership is not always rosy. It often takes effort. But if you’ve got the right partner, it’s 10/10 worth the work.

“Jackson produced this with Jonathan Estes. Initially I was going to record my parts in my basement and let the boys do their work in Nashville and Colorado (where they’re each based), but life landed me in Nashville right around the time we started work on this, so I recorded in Jonathan’s studio in Musictown, USA. The three of us made a great team, and I’m excited to put more music into the world with them!”
