Biography
"Wagons" is definitely a long awaited release that will have music fans asking the question, "what took so long?"
Parker Dulany, the Founder and principle song writer of East Village Punk Band Certain General, a title that some would say was a perfect description for a band leader who had mastered a musical style that not only took hold in New York City but globally particularly in Europe where Parker became a major artist recording for legendary label Barclay Records.
Hailing from New Orleans Parker eventually made his way to St. Louis where he was influenced and some would say immersed in the Blues, a musical style that has had a big influence on Parker and his music, which has been ever present in his music to this day.
In 1979 Parker made the move to the Lower East Side of NYC, which is where he formed the band, Certain General and was the principle songwriter for the band’s music.
In the 80’s the band was the talk of the town creating a buzz in music circles performing and hanging out in all of the clubs from that era: Mudd Club, Club 57, Tier 3, Hurrah’s, Danceteria, The Peppermint Lounge, The Ritz, Irving Plaza, Max’s Kansas City, CBGB’s and many others.
The band’s first release, Holiday of Love, was produced by Peter Holsapple of the dB's and mixed by Michael Gira of Swans in 1982. Next stop Europe where Certain General received critical acclaim winning band and album of the year with New Rose’s November’s Heat in France in 1985. The band’s release of "These are the Days" in ‘86 was another top 10 album in France. From 1987-1991 the band was signed to Barclay Records and released Cabin Fever and Jacklighter. Between 1992 until 2011 the band continued to release recordings for various smaller labels such as CBGB Records and Fantastica.
Wagons is released on Trilogy Records International - Canada and is Parker Dulany’s first solo album. The album was produced by Parker Dulany and Mario Salvati while multi-instrumentalist Peter Holsapple returned to contribute to the creation of Wagons.
The 2017 Club 57 Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art was certainly a highlight for Punk Rockers Certain General. The Exhibition featured two of Parker’s artworks and fittingly Certain General was reunited for the museums after party.
These days Parker continues to perform and write music while serving as an educator at the very school that was the alma mater for Buster Rhymes, Biggie Smalls and Jay-Z!
