Biography
Kate MacLeod's voice is said to sound as pure as water from a mountain stream. Her original music compels music publications such as Sing Out! Magazine to claim that Kate "channels the spirit of the great Carter Family classics." Her songwriting style
and live performances display an unbreakable link between traditional music and cutting-edge contemporary songwriting. A songwriter and fiddle player, she has composed music based on historic events and personalities, a collection of songs based on books, and some commissioned for cultural projects. Whether in a song
or on her violin, she captures history, landscape, and stories in the
varied music that she creates. Her songwriting has been the focus of previous recordings (all on Waterbug Records), but she is a sought after fiddle player, having performed with artists such as Kat Eggleston, Jack Hardy, Robin Spielberg, and countless others. Songs she has written, such as “Alaska” and “Lark in the Morning” have been recorded by bluegrass recording artists Laurie Lewis and Mollie O’Brien. This new recording project is her first concentrating on her violin/fiddle playing, and features 10 instrumental tracks and 1 singable song. It includes guest musicians Darol Anger, Catherine Bent, Kevin Burke, Kat Eggleston, Mark Graham, Larry Lawson, Christopher Layer, James Scott, Robin Spielberg, and 3hattrio.
