J New
Biography
Fans say, “J New combines the charismatically charged hunger of 50 Cent & 2 Pac Shakur, the rhythmic flow of Jada Kiss & Jay Z, the swagger of Young Jeezy & Biggie, and the out-of-the-box creativity of Kanye West & Wil-i-am, in a fresh and totally unique way!”

J New, a recent winner of the Connecticut underground circuit’s JmA Award/Jct Magazine “Top Solo Rap Artist Award of 2008” and present nominee of the New York City underground circuit’s Underground Music Award/Urban Threshold Enterprise “Most Original Male Solo Artist Award of 2008” is among some other well respected and accomplished Underground Music Award nominees such as Joe Buddens, Talib Kweli, Red Café, and Maino just to name of few!

Born blocks away from the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City to Haitian immigrants, at home, J New had to listen to his parent’s choice of music…Caribbean and Gospel. But it was walking to and from grammar school in New York that exposed J New to not only the streets and its elements, but eventually to the love of his life, HIP HOP MUSIC! Noticing J New’s young curiosity and attraction to the streets of Harlem, J New’s parents immediately moved him away across the Hudson River to Jersey City, NJ the following school year to what in their opinion should have been a more calmer atmosphere…they were wrong! Regrettably, J New’s street curiosity soon turned into reality as he continued to get himself, along with his poor innocent parents, into constant legal trouble. Older and wiser now J New looks to music as his way out of stressful circumstances and into the hearts of true listeners. He has most recently finished recording his second street EP titled “From Streetz 2 Platinum”, which features a mix of Hip Hop, with an old school/new school blend, topped off by an intelligent gangster swagga! J New along with brothers G-Baby (Hip Hop) and Polo (R&B)write all of their material and are heavily involved in the mixing and mastering of his projects. Discovered while free-styling with friends on the Bergen Bus in Jersey City, by talented old school RCA Records artist Cooley Live, J New immediately signed a production deal with Heavy Weight Productions in Jersey City, NJ. Heavy Weight Production was J New’s first “in-studio” experience, and to its credit, Heavy Weight Productions has also welcomed into its doors the likes of respected Hip Hop Artist Joe Buddens of Def Jam Records and accomplished Christian Hip Hop Artist B.B. Jay of Jive Records. However the most infamous artist to work out of Heavy Weight Productions prior to moving to Atlanta, where his career catapulted to super-stardom was Akon of Konvict Music/SRC Records. Akon was not only J New’s long time studio-mate back in Jersey City, NJ, but also a mentor to him in and out of the studio. Putting J New “under his wing,” as Akon described it, allowed him to help J New natural talent to the next-level with necessary skills such as Concept Building, Melody & Tuning, and Song Arrangement.
