Biography
Indie Folk / Soul duo Handmade Moments, Joel Ludford (guitar, upright bass, and synth) and Anna Moss (guitar, saxophone, bass clarinet) release their 5th studio album 'End The Wars,' a continuation of their fiercely independent "protest folk" style. You can feel the rage of a SOAD song and hear the influence of Bob Dylan's political songwriting with a modern sense of musicality and collaboration.
The opening track "One Time Thing" is a reaction to police brutality in the US and it features world-renowned spoken work poet, Chuck Perkins (New Orleans). "High Class Woman" (featuring Shook Twins) has a dark, driving groove, and tells the story of feminine power overcoming the tragedies of human trafficking and abuse.
"Speak to My Gun" tells a first-person story of someone who has no guidance. The character grasps for power by wilding a firearm in a cycle of violence and neglect. "Right Now," the most upbeat/easy-listening track on the album, calls for immediate change in an era of refugees, pollution, wildfires, war and an unstable climate.
The title track "End The Wars" makes no use of metaphors or vagueness. It is purely a peace anthem in a time where nuclear war becomes an increasingly real threat to humanity.
"Take a listen to Handmade Moments' rapidly rhyming, gorgously harmonized climate-change banger, "Hole In The Ocean," which wouldn't feel out of place in a slam-poetry jam. A song on their forthcoming album 'End The Wars' it directly confronts Trump's cult-like status, again not pulling any punches." - Z. LUPETIN, The Bluegrass Situation
"On the surface they're two young, energetic multi-instrumentalists clearly in-love with each other and with the world around them. A dynamic duo is definitely apropos here as in their live show they present a seamless mix of acoustic guitar, upright bass, saxophone, sousaphone, theatrical vocals, percussion, and tag team beatboxing." - Ezra Lipp, The Ezra Lipp Hour
