Biography

I’m a guitar player, I have been for what seems like my entire life. I also play banjo (three-finger and clawhammer style), fiddle, mandolin, dobro, bass, and a few other things, but I always seem to come back to the acoustic guitar. Six strings and a wooden box.

Since the age of 2 ½ when I got my first plastic guitar, I have been chasing this thing in my head. This sound, this tone. It has taken me all over the United States and Canada, Australia, Italy, and a few other places. It has brought my wife Ginger and me together years ago. It has put a roof over our head and helped us raise a family.

I grew up in old-time string band music as well as bluegrass in Missouri, near St. Louis. I claim DeSoto, MO as my hometown, and I grew musically around plenty of great musicians in the region. My dad started me on clawhammer banjo when I was about 5 or 6, and from there I eventually learned other instruments.

My wife Ginger and I travelled in our own band for sometime on the road until we had our first son Zachary. When he was 3, we moved to Nashville to pursue not only Ginger’s career as a singer / songwriter, but also for me to take the job as acoustic guitarist for country icon Tim McGraw. As of September 2018 I have held that position for 26 years.

I am also a songwriter with credits and cuts with many bluegrass bands I admire such as Blue Highway, Volume Five, Dailey & Vincent, Special Consensus, Chosen Road and others. I am constantly working on new solo guitar music, and have one CD under my belt – my 2011 release “There And Back And Back Again”. However, I am releasing my solo hymns CD “Six String Sanctuary” in February 2019, and I am currently writing tunes for a new acoustic guitar CD. All CDs will be available as CD and digital downloads in the store section soon.
