Young Musician Takes Title in Rotary's New England Performs Event

Following Alissa were the second-place winner, singer Scarlett Huck, 11, from Swansea, Mass., and third-place winner, singer/actress Pheobe Perelman, 10, from Cranston.

First-place winner for the 13 and over group was Kelsey Green, 14, from West Greenwich. Kelsey received $3,000 for dancing in a scarecrow costume to "If I Only Had a Brain."

Kelsey, the oldest of seven children, began dancing when she was 2 years old and has progressed to dancing en pointe as of last year. She is home-schooled. She said that her siblings are her best friends. Kelsey aims to be a dance teacher or principal dancer.

Second place in the 13 and over division was Justin Krakowsky, 23, from Providence, who performed musical entertainment through voice impersonations. Justin's Web site is www.jkrak.com.

Third place went to singer/performer Marissa Silva, 16, from Woonsocket.

New England Performs was staged by the Rotary Club of Warwick as a means of spotlighting area talent, bringing together community and raising funds for the club's charitable foundation. Club member Dr. Timothy Hudynica, who conceived of New England Performs, said the event raised about $8,000. More than 180 individuals and groups auditioned for the competition
