Atlanta-based, award-winning trio Kitty Rose & The Rattlers, voted the Best Rockabilly Band in Atlanta by fans of Grease Magazine and Garage 71, release their first full-length album of original southern-fried rockabilly. This self-titled release “Kitty Rose and The Rattlers” was recorded in some of the most famous rock studios in the world, including Sun Studios, Memphis and Fidelitorium, known for its owner producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M.).
"We wanted to make a pure rockabilly record - recreating our live sound in the studio, the ol' bass, drums and guitar set up with little or no effects on the vocals - just as it was done in the past, just the room sound mic'd, and had to find engineers who understood that concept. Where else could we create that vibe but Sun Studios where the room had so much natural sound we didn't need headphones, and epic Fidelitorium, where some of the greatest rock records from the South were created. Then taking those tracks and mixing them down to their essence right here in East Atlanta. I think we achieved an album that puts you right in the middle of the band, chatter, string noise, and most importantly a lot of swing and feel. How could you not dance to that!?" [Kitty Rose]
So true to the original radio formats from the 50's, the longest track on this 12-song collection is only a little over three minutes. It's ony cover is a well-deserved nod to rockabilly pioneer Barbara Pittman who recorded "Everlasting Love" at Sun back in 1957. Featured cuts include the sonic shuffle "Missing the Train", a witches' conjering "Kats Kome Back", a warning for those who think they know it all in "Might As Well Be Dead", along with tunes released on vinyl earlier and reworked - the Bario warning of "Junkin' Jimmy's Car" and lovers-who-leave, "Up Side Down". The only hint at the 21st Century is the biting "Dirty Birdie" about a mischievious Tweeter.
The band is slated to play dates from Ohio to New Mexico to Manhattan this summer in support of this release. They are opening for The Rythm Shakers at Rockin' the Route 66, Rockabilly Rukus in Ohio, a return to Wings and Whitewalls, an appearance on the famous WDVX Blue Plate Special, along with Atlanta's City Winery, Decatur Arts on the Square and more.
