Biography
John Daly was born in Carmichael, California on April 28, 1966. His family moved from California to Dardanelle, Arkansas, where his golf career began. He started playing at the age of 4 and in high school he was a letterman in golf and football, and also played baseball. He eventually gave up baseball and football to further his career in golf.
John attended the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the golf team. He turned pro in 1987 and won the Ben Hogan Utah Classic on the Nationwide Tour in 1990. He surprised the golf world in 1991 by winning the PGA Championship at Crooked Stick. He was the ninth and final alternate to get in the tournament and drove all night to win without the benefit of a practice round. He went on to win a second major championship at the 1995 British Open at St. Andrews.
He enjoys writing songs and playing guitar and previously recorded a largely autobiographical album entitled "My Life," featuring guest performances by Darius Rucker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Lee and Daron Norwood.
John is Involved in many charitable causes, most notably the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He also continues to be an active supporter with various sports programs at the University of Arkansas.
