Hannah and Caroline Melby began as instrumentalists in a string band in Mississippi in the late 90’s and moved to Nashville in 2010 taking with them all their memories and adoration of their heritage. The sisters’ debut album was recorded by Nashville producer, Bil VornDick, winner of 7 Grammy awards. His recording projects include such notable artists as Allison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Ralph Stanley, Bela Fleck, and many more.

HanaLena's self titled album is a collection of 5 songs that features a unique blend of acoustic instrumentation and tight vocal harmonies. Two of the 5 songs on the EP, “Hey, Hey, Love” and “Picket Fences”, were written by notable Nashville writers. "Bible Belt" was written by Caroline Melby and two of Nashville’s top writers, Jim McBride and Jerry Salley. The lyrics contain many references to the southern way of life and growing up in the Bible Belt. “Kiss Me in Mississippi” was written by the two lead singers of HanaLena, Hannah and Caroline. It tells the story of two people torn between their love for each other and their love for following their musical dreams. The final song is the well-known and loved, “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess. It takes HanaLena's admiration of the classics and twists and turns it into a perfectly fused sound that represents HanaLena’s unique style.

Since their completion of this album, HanaLena has been featured in Town and Gown Magazine ( Starkville, MS/Mississippi State University), Nashville Music Guide (Nashville, Tennessee), and Maverick Magazine (The United Kingdom’s top Country Music Magazine). In addition to their EP, the sisters, Hannah and Caroline, have performed on a compilation CD commemorating the anniversary of the Civil War along side top ranked professional entertainers such as Marty Stuart and John Anderson. HanaLena continues to tour extensively in the southeast and beyond, traveling with their six piece band. Their record so far is 11 states in two months!
