The Derelicts of Grace from Richmond, VA play Honky Tonkin’ Rock & Roll Outlaw Grass. Their self-titled debut album is available now on all digital platforms. Fronted by singer-songwriter Mike Norris (Guitar, Vocals, Drums), the lineup also includes Andy Burns (Mandolin, Harmonica, Backup Vocals), Greg Harrup (Bass) and John Moser (Lead Guitar, Slide Guitar, Lap Steel). Guest musicians Jesse Wells (fiddle), Stephen Kuester (Pedal Steel), Mackenzie Roark (Backup Vocals) and Lance Kohler (Drums) round out the sound on the album recorded, mixed and mastered by Lance Koehler at Minimum Wage Recording in Richmond, VA.
At times this record is straight up Outlaw Country (“The Good Life Is Gonna Kill Me Someday“, “Burn”, “Manteo Jail”, Talk To Me Hank”). At other times it’s sounds are more rooted in different styles of Americana Music. The bluesy yet upbeat, “Pass The Bottle” conjures images of church revivals and smoky barrooms. “Sadie G” has shades of Rockabilly and Bluegrass. “Dead Man’s Waltz” doubles as both a ghost story and a murder ballad. While the album has it’s share of rowdy drinking songs, some tracks cut a bit deeper lyrically, covering such subjects as redemption (“Earthbound Blues”), loss and mortality (“Farewell Song”) and political protest (“Charlottesville”).
