Biography
NON STOP
Dave Appell & Friends
Dave Appell has been consistantly writing and producing smooth jazz songs with various guest musicians since the mid 80's shortly after his move to semi-retirement. Today at 90 years old, he continues write arrangements and go into the studio to update music from his catalog for a series of upcoming digital releases such as Non Stop.
In addition to programming many basic tracks for his music, Dave has incorporated several live musicians from the Philadelphia and South Jersey area such Ron Kerber, Chris Farr and Bob Howell on saxophones, Anwar Marshall and Vic Stevens on drums, Steve Beskrone on bass, Allan Slutsky, Ron Jennings and Jake Morelli on guitar and Jeremy Grenhart and Barry Sames on piano. These talented musicians bring an organic component to the overall sound.
The latest recordings, Super Track, Jazzioso, Right Around Midnite and Vera Cruz are performed by all live musicians. Dave updated his arrangements to conform to a live rhythm section and left room for improvisational solos and enough air during the tracking sessions for spontaneous creativity. In addition to Dave's home studio, the live tracking, mixing and mastering is done at Giant Steps Recording in Sicklerville, NJ with Vic Stevens engineering and at RadioActive Productions in Philadelphia with Daoud Shaw behind the console.
Dave has always been a great melody writer going back to the 1950's in the early days of Rock and Roll. On this project, mellow songs such as Smooth Satin, Tropical Treat and Shadows On The Moon set the perfect late night mood. This first release is on Expansion Records in the U.K. and will be available in other territories in early 2013.
