Biography
Vancouver, B.C. based trumpeter, engineer, and producer Chris Davis's
powerful, soulful, and swingin' approach to his instrument has made him one
of the most sought after musicians in Vancouver as well as one of the most
recognizable voices in the Canadian music scene. His large warm tone is
often compared to that of Clifford Brown - his feel to Lee Morgan's - and his
power and excitement to that of Dizzy Gillespie.
Chris was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1982 but spent the greater of
his life in Amelia Island, Florida and that's where his distinguishing gospel/
R&B tinged sound and feel originate. He spent the early 2000's in college in
Northern Florida before doing a brief stint on cruise ships. After meeting his
future wife(on a ship), he relocated to Vancouver, B.C. were he's been
residing since 2003. While living in Vancouver he continued to polished his
craft and was the recipient of the 2008 CBC Galaxie Rising Star award and
has since moved away from the 'young lion' stage of his career into young
professionalism. Chris is currently a touring member the UK based band
"The Heavy" and has toured extensively with the band in the US and Canada
playing in some of North America’s finest venues.
Davis currently has three self-produced releases entitled "Baile Bonita" by
Chris Davis Quartet(Cellar Live 2010), "A Night Remembered" by Chris
Davis Sextet(Cellar Live 2008), and "This Christmas" by Chris Davis Quartet(Bunny Jams 2011). Davis also appears on "The Many Deeds Of
Cory Weeds" with the Cory Weeds Quartet(Cellar Live 2010) and "Time"
with the Morgan Childs Quintet(Cellar Live 2008). Davis has also participated
in CBC radio's Concerts On Demand series on recordings with Zapato Negro
and saxophonist Mike Allen(the music of Frank Loesser)
Some notable artists that Chris has performed or recorded
