Comprised of Cody Farrar on guitar; Tyler White on fiddle; Jody Elmore on banjo; Zach Wooten on mandolin; and Britt Sheffield on bass; this innovative band formed with one goal in mind - to make music that all ages could enjoy.
Breaking Grass – Cold
Guitarist/vocalist Cody Farrar writes and delivers impressionist songs with plenty of spark. Opening with “Heart of My Love,” Cody delivers each lyric with convincing emotion and feeling. Farrar is an intense singer, and “Lazarus Bell” is a good demonstration of his power. His intensity also comes through strong and clear on a mid-paced ballad like “Bluest Eyes in Texas.” Alecia Nugent appears as a special guest vocalist on “Do Your Worst.” The rest of Breaking Grass attach themselves to the groove as they give us blistering instrumental breaks and intense vocal harmonies. Bassist Britt Sheffield and mandolinist Zach Wooten provide the lead vocals on “The Truth” and “Strong,” respectively. Their lead vocals are evocative too but have a softer edge. An amazing and youthful band, Breaking Grass encompasses everything that today’s progressive bluegrass music is all about as they break down barriers and establish a signature sound with a country edge. Their energy is contagious, and their musicianship is exciting. This is some of the freshest sounding contemporary bluegrass I’ve heard in quite some time. (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
Heart Of My Love - This first single releases to the public 4/23/19 and is now available to radio stations around the world. Their full album "Cold" will feature this single and releases 6/21/2019.
With their fresh sound, original material, strong vocals and innovative musicianship, Breaking Grass is doing exactly what their name implies. Although not quite traditional, the music they present is without a doubt steeped in the timeless genre they grew up listening to.
