Biography
Whistler's Father, based in Orange County, CA, is a great example of the Americana music genre. Blending Bluegrass, Country, Folk, Rock, Blues, Cajun, and Jazz, the first Whistler's Father album of all original new music entitled "Highly Irregular" reached #3 on the AirPlay Direct Americana Album Chart for November 2015. It is available on Amazon, iTunes, cd baby, SoundCloud, Spotify and numerous other music sites.
"Highly Irregular" was recorded over the course of a year and a half. The core members of Whistler's Father, Tim Bennett - lead vocals, guitar, and harmonica; Dan Cartmell - banjo, finger-style guitar, and harmony vocals; and RJ Williams - bass and harmony vocals, were joined in the studio by a roster of talented musicians.
Legendary fiddler Byron Berline appears on 8 songs including "Come On By", "I Really Don't Miss You At All", and "Love What You Do", as well as contributing both fiddle and mandolin to "The Other Side". Byron Berline has recorded with greats from many genres like The Band, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones,
Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, The Dillards, Bill Monroe, and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The Byron Berline Band plays every other Saturday night in The Music Hall at Byron's own The Double Stop Fiddle Shop in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Other session players were Hal Ratliff - piano & keyboards; Roger Gillespie - drums; Rick White - electric guitars; Ernie Nunez - bass; Sean Vidrine - accordion; and Bradley Baker & Sir Louis - harmony vocals on "Love What
You Do".
