Biography
Tom Gavin is a Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and quasi-multi-instrumentalist, though not necessarily in that order. With an instinct for teasing simple melodies with unexpected twists, he creates music that follows it's own logic, roving from moody, introspective murmurings to brash swells of clanging chords and keening vocals--usually within the same song. Hidden under the surface are curious little vignettes of interpersonal friction and existential angst, sharing space with hints of influence from bands such as Polvo, Sun Kil Moon, Neil Young, and Steely Dan. Tom performs regularly with a number of original groups, playing guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, and whatever else is nearby, but his most particular ideas are reserved for his own band, which includes long-time friends and co-conspirators Chris Moore on drums and Gary Langol on upright bass.
