Biography
There is a deep river of traditional music running through the
mountains of North Carolina. Grammy Award winners Bryan Sutton, David
Holt and T. Michael Coleman explore the richness of that musical
culture. Each has been inspired by and performed with Doc Watson over
the years and honor his musical genius.

"Doc was a primary influence on all of us. We are following his lead
in performing a wide range of songs and tunes that reach out and grab
people. We are not trying to recreate the past. We are playing music
for today,” says Holt.

“We want to sound like Western North Carolina,” adds Sutton. “It’s not
bluegrass, it’s not old-time, it’s mountain music, and it’s ours. It
has a unique kind of bounce.”

Says Coleman, "The music on this project was recorded pretty much the same way Doc, Merle and I recorded, sitting in a circle playing and singing it live. It felt like coming home. For me it captures not only what the music feels like now, but what it felt like back then."

In addition to being considered one of best modern flatpickers, Bryan Sutton has enjoyed a successful career as a first call session musician. His playing can be heard on many hit recordings across many popular genres.

For the last 40 years, David Holt has learned traditional music from
southern mountaineers including Roy Acuff, Etta Baker and 122-year-old
Susie Brunson. David accompanied Doc on tour for the last 14 years of
Doc’s life. In 2002 their Legacy CD won a Grammy
for Best Folk Recording.

Bassist T. Michael Coleman played with Doc and Merle Watson for
fifteen years as well as with the Seldom Scene and Chesapeake. He has
produced recordings for Doc Watson, Seldom Scene, Robin and Linda
Williams and many others. T. Michael has had multiple Grammy nominations and wins with Doc and Merle and the Seldom Scene.

Individually and collectively Sutton, Holt and Coleman bring new
creativity to an ageless tradition. They are...ready for the times.

Only radio accounts may add a Radio Cred. One week after the track has been downloaded the radio account member will receive an email requesting a Cred for each artist they've downloaded.
