Biography
Once in a blue moon you hear a classic country song that takes you back to an era when vocals were pure and acoustic music was king. Songs were framed with the bend of the steel guitar and the draw of a fiddle bow. Over the last 50 years much has changed in country music, but one thing remains true, classic country transcends time and will always be the heart and soul of country music.

On the last blue moon of 2015 Sweet Potato Pie stepped into the recording studio to recreate the magical sound of twelve legendary songs that set country music on fire. These songs are by legendary female artists who kicked open the door and paved the way for other female artists to follow including Sweet Potato Pie.

"Once In A Blue Moon" is a historic album that celebrates the women of the classic country era. The songs are performed in the order they became hits. They include:

1952 - Honky Tonk Angels (Kitty Wells)
1956 - Silver Threads & Golden Needles (Wanda Jackson)
1961 - I Fall To Pieces ( Patsy Cline)
1966 - You Ain't Woman Enough (Loretta Lynn)
1968 - Stand By Your Man (Tammy Wynette)
1970 - Rose Garden (Lynn Anderson)
1971 - Coat Of Many Colors (Dolly Parton)
1973 - What's Your Mama's Name (Tanya Tucker)
1979 - Blue Kentucky Girl (Emmylou Harris)
1980 - Lesson In Leaving (Dottie West)
1981 - I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool (Barbara Mandrell)
1984 - How Blue (Reba McEntire)

This one-of-a-kind project performed by America’s longest running all female band is classic from start to finish. You will hear the distinct Pie harmonies capturing the originality of the music mixed perfectly with their traditional instrumentation. While known for their original songwriting, listeners will enjoy their rootsy interpretation of these country hits.

Sweet Potato Pie is comprised of founding band member Sonya Stead on guitar, Crystal Richardson on banjo, Katie Springer playing fiddle and Sandy Whitley on bass. The album includes special guests Aaron Ramsey on mandolin while adding a splash of guitar on Lesson in Leaving. Clyde Mattocks authenticates the sound throughout with classic steel guitar adding dobro on How Blue. Danny "Stonewall" Vinson provided drums on 4 of the tracks.
