Biography
"31 Hours Til What?"
is about the uncertainty of life, and how I, Mission Man, handle that uncertainty. During the 3 and a half years it took me to record this album, I experienced tremendous ups and downs. I got to live my dream, sleeping in my car and at other random places, during the "Do What You Love" tour from April until June of 2009. Before that, I moved to Chicago, and watched everything fall apart, while feeling completely alone; I was able to recover only by throwing myself back into music more than I ever had before.
I slept in a closet for 9 months because someone close to me needed a place to stay.
I left North America for the first time, and learned many things about life from seeing another culture in Japan.
I gained 30 pounds, then lost 40, based on stress, and then lack thereof.
I made some really bad decisions, and some really good ones. I don't regret any of them.
I was rejected... by several women, by more music festivals, by venues, radio stations, newspapers, potential fans, and probably many things I'm forgetting about. More importantly, I was accepted, by friends, family, fans, venues, newspapers, and probably many things I'm forgetting about.
I grew tremendously as a musician, and aside from "A Little About Me," I wrote and recorded every piece of music on the album. "A Little About Me" was musically created by a friend of mine in Columbus, OH. Last I checked, he wanted to be anonymous.
I have grown tremendously as a person throughout the creation of this album. I am still tremendously passionate about music, and I am very thankful for the experiences it has given me, and the real connections I've made because of it. Of course, I'd love to make a living from my music, but even if I continue to lose money making it, music has enriched my life in ways money never could.
This album is a reflection of all of these things, and much more. I have always been open about who I am, and this album continues to show who I am, more broadly and with more depth, than any previous album.
