Biography
Through the years Jim Boyd's soulful voice and reflections have won him an international following. Many compare his style of music to an early Bob Dylan while others compare his rock-n-roll to that of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker. He first began performing with many cover bands before performing with original music groups XIT, Greywolf and Winterhawk before branching out on his own.
Growing up in a military family, Jim Boyd learned first hand the sacrifices of our armed forces. His new release "Harley High" is not only a main stream recording portraying Jim's love for riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, it is a tribute to Veterans worldwide and their families.
The musicians on "Harley High" include Garry Tallent (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), Craig Krampt (Steve Perry, Alabama, Kim Carnes), David Roe (Johnny Cash, Jerry Reed, Dwight Yoakam), Sandy Pippen (top Nashville studio musician), Dale Herr (creator for musical scores The Simpsons, the 70’s Show, Married with Children, and more).
Boyd sang four songs with lyrics by Sherman Alexie on the soundtrack for the 1998 movie Smoke Signals and also appeared in Alexie's “The Business of Fancydancing.”
He has performed in concert with artists such as Bonnie Raitt, The Indigo Girls, Sarah McLaclan, Joe Cocker, Joan Baez, performing at venues like The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Seattle’s Bumbershoot, Hard Rock Hotels, 60-Minutes, The Sundance Film Festival, Casinos, Blues Festivals, Music and Award shows.
Boyd is also a multiple-time nominee and five-time winner of the Native American Music Award. Boyd won "Songwriter of the Year" in 2006 for his song "Them Old Guitars" and "Record of the Year" for his album AlterNATIVES. Boyd also received three other nominations for the album “Them Old Guitars” in 2006, three nominations for the album “Going to the Stick Games” in 2004, and a nomination for "Best Pop/Rock" act in 2003 for “Live.” He is also a “Best Short Form Video” recipient.
In 2004, Boyd produced and performed on sessions with singer-songwriter Robert Richmond. Two of the tracks from these sessions were released in 2013 on Richmond's "Before the Night" release.
Jim Boyd is a member of the Arrow Lakes Band of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. He resides in Inchelium, Washington with his family where he is a member of tribal council.
"Harley High" features hits "Hold Those Veteran Colors High", "Scootin On" and "Riding the Wind" and fan favorites "Ride in My Soul" and "Roll with the Thunder"
