"GEQ" is a classic jazz ensemble who's music style is a reminder of the 'real' jazz ensembles of the late 40's and early 50's. Miles',Trane's and Blakey's bands bared the classic three person rhythm section and two horns. To produce the same sound, Bandleader, Guymon Ensley has armed his group with that same instrumentation to perform a repertoire of his original works as well as the works written, performed and recorded by the legends of their time(s).
Additionally, GEQ takes it a step further with Guy's original works, leaning towards a jazz 'fusion' repertoire. But, abandoning 'real jazz,' GEQ does not, when finding twists of basic swing in each of their songs.
GEQ received CONSIDERATION in the 59th Grammys for the single released in 2017 - "Nobody Knows I'm Here" in the Best Instrumental Composition category; Composition and Arranging Field.
Bandleader, Guymon Ensley received CONSIDERATION in the 57th Grammys for the EP release in 2015 - "This Comes With It" in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category; Instrumental Album Field.
