Biography
Experimental playfulness and captivating, pulsing grooves of all rhythms and varieties are what spring to life in the music of 1undread (pronounced one undread). 1undreads music is a balancing act as the artist seeks to fulfill the desire for exploring new territory while at the same time finding a sound that will appeal to others. Together, Brian Swan bass player, composer and producer and Nicola Swan singer, DJ and belly dancer are the minds behind 1undread, the people out to redefine what listenable music is.
Sound Click is a perfect intro to the surprising world of 1undreads music, with abrupt shifts in style and tempo and startling mergings of musical textures to create music that is constantly bringing something fresh and exciting to the listeners ears. The trick is that each new shift in style is instantly catchy, so the audience is swept along on an unpredictable but engrossing wave of electronica and more.
The point of the twisting, shifting, experimentation, says 1undread, is being able to hear between the sounds (or read between the lines) to find the hidden meaning to be behind what you hear, according to 1undread. Specifically, Sound Click is about the glitchy sound of the 1undread beats that has been a signature sound from the beginning. Hence, its the ideal kick-off point for newcomers to the hypnosis that is 1undread.
The combination of IDM glitch techniques, heavy bass lines and soulful vocals give the music a new sound, says 1undread.
Swan has DJd at the Liquid nightclub in Leeds and has also gigged at the Wicker Man Festival in Scotland. It was at the Leeds Drum and Bass club in 1997 that the two first met and the creative chemistry erupted into the formation of 1undread. The personal chemistry was also strong the couple married in 1999. The duo initially created its music on the computer, often offering 10- to 15-minute epics that took the listener on strange journeys. The more time spent creating the music, the more play there was with fast edits, small cuts and impossible drum rolls. The bands sound incorporates slices of jazz and funk, on the organic side, and drum-and-bass, IDM and dub on the electronic side of things.
