Biography
Contact info@creativeanddreams.com for more information about The Wilburn Brothers.

Teddy and Doyle Wilburn were born in Hardy, Arkansas. They first attracted attention as child performers, beginning in 1938, in an act called The Wilburn Children; it was a cold Christmas Eve in 1938. Five frightened children were huddled together on a corner of the town square in Thayer, Missouri. They were there for a reason. After practicing all year on the instruments their father had ordered for them from the Sears catalog, the children had come to town to make their show business debut. Roy Acuff discovered them and brought them to the Grand Ole Opry in 1940. Due to federal child labor laws, the Wilburns were forced to leave the Opry after six months.

They continued to travel, by 1948 they were regulars on the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport. After the family act disbanded, and the brothers served stints in the US Army during the Korean War, they continued in 1953 as The Wilburn Brothers touring with Faron Young and Webb Pierce. On this CD they re-recorded their hits from 1954 when they had their first hit record titled "Sparkling Brown Eyes", "Trouble's Back In Town" , "Making Plans" and "Knoxville Girl".

In addition to being successful artists, the Wilburns formed the Wil-helm Talent Agency (with Don Helms) in the early 1960s as well as the Surefire Music Publishing Company in 1963. They were instrumental in launching the careers of many country music legends, most notably Loretta Lynn. The brothers also discovered Patty Loveless in the early 1970s. They had a syndicated a television program, The Wilburn Brothers Show, that ran from 1963 to 1974. They were Opry members from 1953 until the time of Doyle's death from cancer in 1982 (at age 52). Teddy continued with the Opry as a solo artist until his death in 2003, six days before his 72nd birthday.

They are both buried in the Nashville National Cemetery Nashville, Tennessee.

The Wilburn Brothers Duo had the best Family harmony in Country Music. This CD was recorded at Pete's Place on Music Row and was produced by Pete Drake. It was the last project the Wilburns recorded together. We are very proud to have this music as part of the First Generation Family.
