Solo Banjo Works comprises fourteen solo banjo performances by Tony Trischka and nine by Béla Fleck, along with their duets “Green Willis / Whiskey Before Breakfast” and “Killer Bees on Caffeine.” Trischka and Fleck, who began their friendship and collaboration as teacher and student, have individually and collectively been responsible for redefining the musical possibilities of the banjo. The scope of their innovation is reflected here, from Tony’s interpretation of the traditional “Old Joe Clark/June Appal” to Béla’s impressionistic reading of the Lyle Mays-Pat Metheny composition “Au Lait.”
