"We’re kicking off 2019 with a mix of classic bluegrass, Pickin’ On tributes, and a smattering of jam band records, just to stir things up. Our featured title for January is the, well, essential album, The Essential Osborne Brothers Collection, a 20-song collection of the best of the Brothers’ best from the CMH vaults. Keeping it familial and in the world of roots music, we’re also highlighting The Stonemans’ Family Tradition and The Stanley Family’s tribute to Carter Stanley, Baby Girl.  Rounding out our assortment of classic bluegrass titles this month is the Bass Mountain Boys’ classic 18 Wheels.

Our Pickin’ On selections this month rank as some of our all-time best sellers, which is not surprising when you look at who we’ve paid tribute to on the releases. Pickin’ & Singin’ is our bluegrass celebration of Garth Brooks, the original Country Music arena superstar. Speaking of which, no one has filled up more arenas for as long as The Rolling Stones, whose biggest hits are spun

into bluegrass on Paint It Blue. Then, for all the Parrotheads out there, we’ve got Pickin’ On Jimmy Buffett.

We’re wrapping up the month with something a little different, reaching back to a trio of jam band albums from the CMH catalog. Southern rock all-stars The Allman Brothers have their deep-fried classics twist-and-turned by a line-up of incredibly diverse jam acts. That same line-up also creates unexpected and eclectic renditions of songs by Frank Zappa, the godfather of experimental rock music. Putting a nice big bow on the jam band selection we’re gifting you is Up All Night, a jam band tribute to Talking Heads that features a superb slate of some of the best bands in the jam scene, including an opening track by Umphrey’s McGee."
