4th of July
A7 D
We staked out this old oak tree right next to the stream
A7 D D7
Pulled our truck in just before dawn to get a little patch of green
G A
Got a cooler in the back, we're sittin' on the hood
G A
Any other day we’d be up to no good
G A
But once a year we like to come out here
Ab A A7
And celebrate what we’ve got

D
'Cause it's the Fourth of July
E7
My buddies and I
A D
Are howlin’ up at the clear blue sky

We're celebratin’ the birth

Of the Land of the Free,

American boys,
D
My buddies and me

We got some fun-loving moms out here in Victory Park
All the kids get to stay up late, they can’t wait for it to get dark
So when the sun goes down, they come a-looking for me
I like to climb to the top of this old oak tree and
And send a rocket’s red glare up into the air
To celebrate what we’ve got (CHO)

G A7 D
I had a hot dog with onions and chili this morning at ten
G A7 F# G A-A7
I think I’ll have me a burger at noon, then start all over again.

Sometimes my buddies and I, we get out of hand
‘Specially Mister Duncan Glenn, but everybody understands
Cuz at 9 o’clock, he makes that fiddle sing
And even tho it’s only got three strings
It makes the Star Spangled Banner such a beautiful thing
For celebratin’ what we’ve got (CHO)
