The Parrot of a Pirate
The Parrot of a Pirate!
(Tom Mason & Bill Crosby)
We went to the pet shop to buy ourselves a bird
This one’s a talking parakeet of that we were assured
But when we got him home he used such salty words
He must have been the parrot of a pirate!
He didn’t say hello to us instead he said AHOY
He called us lads and lasses instead of girls and boys
He did not sing a sweet song he made a nasty noise
He must have been the parrot of a pirate!
We thought that we may grow to love our foul-mouthed feathered friend
With bedtime tales of raising sails our days would nicely end
But every night an hour after we had gone to sleep
He’d start singing shanties of the deep
He always called me Bucko, he never knew my name
He’d plundered so much We wondered if he ever could be tamed
His constant interrupting would be my family shame
He must have been the parrot of a pirate!
