One and Twenty Nine
You could tell by the rivers,
In the corners of his eyes,
He'd weathered many days,
Drinkin' wine.
The valleys on his forehead,
Had been cut by livin' hard,
Tho' the years that flowed behind him,
Were only one and twenty nine.

He spent some time in Mexico,
The reason for his smile,
From Chihuahua,
To the depths of Mazatlan,
Carved himself a memory,
From a maiden in Juarez,
And the Ripple kept the hurt away,
The first day she was gone.

You could tell by the rivers,
In the corners of his eyes,
He'd weathered many days,
Drinkin' wine.
The valleys on his forehead,
Had been cut by livin' hard,
Tho' the years that flowed behind him,
Were only one and twenty nine.

Some folks think he's crazy.
Some think he's insane,
But it's just because their minds can't comprehend.
That livin' without livin',
Is the sickest sin of all,
And me I'm proud to call this man,
A teacher and my friend.

You could tell by the rivers,
In the corners of his eyes,
He'd weathered many days,
Drinkin' wine.
The valleys on his forehead,
Had been cut by livin' hard,
Tho' the years that flowed behind him,
Were only one and twenty nine.
